Project Story
The Challenge
This classic San Francisco Victorian had been through several rounds of patchwork updates over the decades, leaving it with an inconsistent mix of styles and materials. The layout was choppy, the kitchen was a galley with no natural light, and the built-in shelving around the fireplace had been removed at some point, leaving the living room without a focal point.
Our Approach
We stripped the interior back to studs where needed and rebuilt with a cohesive material palette — white oak cabinetry, marble countertops, and warm hardwood flooring throughout. We designed custom built-in shelving flanking the fireplace to restore the living room's character. The kitchen was opened up with oak cabinets and a marble island, and we rethought the lighting plan for every room to create warm, layered illumination.
The Result
The home now honors its Victorian heritage while feeling thoroughly modern inside. The custom built-ins became the centerpiece the living room had been missing for years. The homeowner told us this was the first time the house felt like a single, unified home rather than a collection of rooms from different eras. The project ran about four and a half months.
